Volunteer Opportunities
Help local pets find their forever homes. Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Upstate Pet Project, providing the care and support needed to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need.
Foster Parent
Provide a temporary, loving home for a dog or cat until they find their permanent family.
Commitment: Timeline varies
Adoption Event Assistant
Help manage pets and engage with potential adopters during our weekend adoption events.
Commitment: 4 hours per event.
Pet Transporter
Safely transport animals between shelters, foster homes, and veterinary appointments.
Commitment: Occasional, 1-2 hours per trip.
Social Media Advocate
Share our adoptable pets' stories online to help them reach a wider audience of potential families.
Commitment: Ongoing, approx. 2 hours per week.
Presenter/Educator Volunteer
Help make a lasting impact by teaching humane education and pet safety classes in schools, community groups, and public events. Volunteers will educate children and families about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, dog bite prevention, pet care, and the importance of compassion toward animals. This role is ideal for confident communicators who enjoy engaging with the community and inspiring others to create safer, more humane environments for pets.
Commitment: Occasional, based on scheduled events.
Fundraising Volunteer
Help save lives by supporting Upstate Pet Project's fundraising efforts. Fundraising Volunteers assist with events, donor outreach, sponsorships, and community campaigns that provide vital resources for rescued animals. This role is perfect for enthusiastic supporters who enjoy connecting with people and helping raise the funds needed to provide care, medical treatment, and loving homes for pets in need.
Commitment: Flexible, varies by event and campaign.
